About this place
Sheep, city views and Sapporo Dome from one hilltop 🐑
3.9 · 9,769 reviews · GOOGLE_MAPS
Sheep grazing on the hill, Sapporo Dome below, and Sapporo city stretching out beyond them! Sapporo Hitsujigaoka Observation Hill brings those views together, looking southeast over the city. The Clark statue, with its arm outstretched against the skyline, is another scene to catch while you’re here 📸
There’s more to explore across the grounds. Austria House is a building relocated here after being used for the 1972 Sapporo Winter Olympics; today, it serves as a shop for local goods. You’ll also find the Sapporo Snow Festival Museum, Rest House, Clark Chapel and Sapporo Blanc Birch Chapel.
Part of the hill was once the Tsukisamu Sheep Farm, run by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry before World War II. The area opened to visitors in 1959 under the Sapporo Tourist Association. To get there, you can travel by Hokkaido Chuo Bus via Hiragishi Station or Fukuzumi Station (Fukuzumi Bus Terminal). The New Chitose Airport bus stops at Fukuzumi 3-jo 9-chome, by the observation hill entrance. Entering by bus? Pay the admission fee at the booth beside the terminal stop 🚌
Sheep, city and dome
Sheep graze on the hill with Sapporo city behind them, while Sapporo Dome is visible below. Take in the whole view, from the hillside to the city and dome 🐑
A Clark statue photo
The grounds have a full-length statue of Dr. William S. Clark, standing with one arm outstretched. Frame the statue with Sapporo city to the southeast behind it, and you’ll have the hill’s signature view 📸
