Beyond the Gate on a Guided Walk

Ready for a door you usually pass by to swing open 🚪? Pick a guided course and walk with a docent who reads roofs, gates and alleys like sentences! Twelve courses link excellent hanoks and public hanoks around the villages for an anniversary open house called Beyond the Gate.

The gathering returns for a fourth edition and runs over several days with schedules set programme by programme. Admission is set programme by programme, and some walks ask for advance booking through the city reservation channel. Start at the cultural center set in a traditional hanok, rest a moment by the calm courtyard, then continue toward nearby museums and hanok halls!

Breath and Strings in a Hanok Hall

Hush — can you hear breath turn into melody under wooden beams 🎶? Step into the hanok hall and let flute, gayageum and cello trade phrases in a bright crossover set! The concert pairs breath and strings for a bright crossover moment in hanok air.

What changes when music meets a courtyard — does wood sound warmer, does listening feel closer? Stay a little after the notes fade and connect the music to the village festival Bukchon Day and partner programmes across the villages! Event guide

The Seoul Metropolitan Government will hold the 4th 〈2026 Seoul Hanok Week〉 for ten days from October 2 (Fri) to October 11 (Sun) in the areas around Bukchon and Seochon. ‘Seoul Hanok Week’ is a multicultural event featuring exhibitions, lectures/tours, hands-on activities, performances, and events that offer diverse ways to experience Seoul’s hanok, together with hanok-related institutions, organizations, and residents. It will take place in the Bukchon and Seochon areas and at Seoul’s public hanok sites; information is available through the Seoul Hanok Portal, social media, and other channels. This year, a K-living exhibition created in collaboration with brands will be introduced as a new program to showcase everyday life in Seoul hanok. In cooperation with related institutions, the festival will also expand its range of activities by operating diverse programs throughout the hanok village area, including programs linked to ‘Bukchon Day,’ Bukchon’s signature local cultural festival. ‘2026 Seoul Hanok Week,’ which presents a new image of hanok as it expands beyond tourism into a space for everyday life, is themed ‘Everyday Life in Seoul Hanok’ and will offer diverse programs—including exhibitions, performances, and docent tours—that allow visitors to experience hanok spaces and their appeal.
